Kinvara Adoration Chapel refurbishment is complete

The refurbishment of the Adoration Chapel at St Joseph’s Church, Kinvara, has now been completed. The weekly day of Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will re-commence this coming Thursday, 6th October 2022 from after 10am Mass until 7.30pm. All welcome to come in to pray at any stage during that time on the Thursdays.

Sincere thanks to all who made this possible, including those who kindly made financial contributions to enable the works to be carried out, those who gave practical help, those who gave helpful advice and guidance, and the tradespeople and artists who worked on the elements of the Chapel. Here are some photographs of the end result.

Welcome to the newly refurbished Adoration Chapel at St Joseph’s Church, Kinvara.

The new altar in the Adoration Chapel.
The altar was made by (left to right) Pádraig and Seán Collins of Kinvara Wood. It is wonderful that this beautiful altar was made by such skilled local craftsmen.
The motif of the Lamb of God on the new altar was inspired by the mosaic in the sanctuary of St Joseph’s Church.
The ceiling of the Adoration Chapel is inspired by the traditional Church ceiling starry blue sky design.
The stars on the ceiling were designed and painted by Lily Johnston. It is wonderful that such a skilled local artist undertook this beautiful work.
There are new chairs in the Adoration Chapel, made by ICS Church Furnishings, Dromod, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Leitrim.
There is a small library in the Adoration Chapel for anybody who might like to learn more about the Catholic faith. You are welcome to borrow books from it. Please return them then after a reasonable period of time.
A new radiator has been installed to keep a constant temperature in the Adoration Chapel during the day of Adoration.
New ventilation has been put in the Adoration Chapel.
A HEPA filter machine will be in operation on the days of Adoration, to protect those in the Adoration Chapel from the Covid-19 virus.
To access the Adoration Chapel on the Thursdays, you can enter by this door from outside St Joseph’s Church…
or you can enter through this door to the left of the sanctuary inside St Joseph’s Church.
The Adoration Chapel at St Joseph’s, Church, Kinvara: A place to be at peace in the presence of the Lord.
All will be welcome for the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament in the Adoration Chapel at St Joseph’s Church, Kinvara on Thursdays from after 10am Mass until 7.30pm.

Thursday Adoration soon re-starting

Thursday Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will soon be re-starting in the Adoration Chapel at St Joseph’s Church, Kinvara, after the final jobs are completed on a full refurbishment of the Adoration Chapel.

Each week (except for July and August), the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed from after the 10am Mass until 7.30pm in the evening. Everybody will be welcome to drop in for time in quiet prayer and peace in the presence of Jesus present on the altar, at any time on the Thursdays.

But, we also need some people who would make a more permanent commitment to be present for one of the hours of the day every week, to ensure that there is someone with the Blessed Sacrament at all times while the Adoration is going on. Thank you to those who have volunteered for this so far. If you would like to commit for a particular hour every week, please contact either Bina Mitchell or Fr Hugh.

The Adoration Chapel has been drylined and a new constant-temperature radiator has been installed, so the cold will not be a problem. Proper ventilation has been added. Inner windows have been installed to reduce noise from outside and exclude draughts. A HEPA filter will be in operation to protect against Covid-19. There is a new altar and new flooring, as well as new ceiling design and all is newly painted. Pictures and descriptions will follow when the Adoration Chapel is fully ready.

COPE Galway Special Collection

The special Church collection for COPE Galway takes place this weekend, 24th / 25th September 2022. There is an envelope in the parish envelope box for this collection, but for anybody not using the parish envelope system, you are welcome to use any envelope and mark ‘COPE Galway’ on it, and leave it in the offertory basket or put it in the door of either parish office or the Parochial House in Kinvara.

In a letter to the parishes, COPE outlines the services provided:

‘The proceeds of the Church plate collection go directly to supporting COPE Galway’s homeless, domestic abuse and senior support services in Galway city and county…

  • Our domestic abuse service provided safety and support for 696 women and children in Galway city and county. 117 women and 128 children were supported with refuge accommodation; we provided 1,431 outreach appointments and supported 68 children and young people through Solas Óg, our children’s domestic abuse service.
  • 1,316 adults and children who were homeless or at risk of homelessness received support from COPE Galway’s homeless services. These services included the provision of emergency accommodation, assistance with health, education and advice, and day services such as meals and laundry to individuals and families.
  • Our senior support service produced and delivered almost 70,000 meals to older people and helped address social isolation through our community support and day centre projects. Through the FEAD programme, we helped support over 2,798 individuals at risk of food poverty.’
