The Synodal Pathway gatherings

There will be gatherings in the meeting room in the Pastoral Centre at St Joseph’s Church, Kinvara, on Thursday 24th March 2022 at 8pm, and in the Acorn Centre meeting room at Ballinderreen Church on Tuesday 29th March after Mass (around 7.45pm), as part of these parishes’ involvement in the Synodal Pathway initiated by Pope Francis and happening at parish, diocesan, national and world levels. All welcome to come and walk together in discernment about how the life of the Church can best witness to Jesus in the years ahead.

The following questions will act as a spring-board for the discussion:

The Pandemic
1. Overall, what has been the impact of Covid?
2. What wounds did it reveal?
3. What insights has it given?

Another Focus:
1. How has faith helped you in your life?
2. How can we encourage and support more active participation?
3. What facilitates or inhibits our capacity to listen?

Further possible questions:
1. If there was no faith at all in our world, would it make any difference?
2. What would make it attractive for you to feel more part of the faith community?
3. How can the church listen better?
4. If there was one good thing the church could do that would make the world a better place what would that be?

Mass on Island Eddy

Mass will be celebrated on Island Eddy on Saturday 19th March 2022 at approximately 11.15am. All welcome.

Thanks to Brian Martyn for all the work and enthusiasm he has been putting into organising this Mass. We remember the great traditions of faith on the formerly inhabited island, and the dedication of the people in getting in to Ballinderreen for their weekly Sunday Mass, and the visits twice a year of the Parish Priest of Ballinderreen for the Station Mass on the island. A new Memorial Cross in the Reiligín Oileán Eide will be blessed on the occasion.
For Saturday, Brian explains, ‘Everyone is welcome to attend and people can walk across from Aran Quay sand bank at approximately 10.45am. Latest time to leave island to walk back will be 12.30pm. (Times may vary depending on weather.) Please make sure to wear wellies and suitable clothing.’

St Patrick’s Day 2022

Depiction of St Patrick in the Pontifical Irish College, Rome, by Fr Marko Rupnik and the artists of the Centro Aletti.

Vigil Mass on Wednesday 16th March in St Joseph’s Church, Kinvara at 7pm. Masses on St Patrick’s Day, 17th March: 9am in Doorus Church, 10.30am in Ballinderreen Church, and 12 noon in St Colman’s Church, Kinvara. The 12 noon Mass might be particularly suitable for families planning to attend the Kinvara parade then at 2pm.

This will be the first time in three years having the congregation in Church for St Patrick’s Day Mass, so it will be a great opportunity to celebrate the reason for the day, the Christian faith that St Patrick spread with such zeal in Ireland. The fixed parts of the Mass will be celebrated as Gaeilge, and leaflets will be provided so you can follow. The homily will be in English, and there will be variations between the different Churches regarding the language of the readings.
