Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception 2024

Bishop Michael Duignan has made this clarification regarding the celebration of the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception this year:

‘The Feast of the Immaculate Conception has the rank of a Solemnity and is celebrated on 8th December, but when that date is the second Sunday of Advent, it is transferred to the following day, Monday 9th December 2024. On its ordinary dating it is in Ireland a Holy Day of Obligation, but not when transferred to the following day. This year the Feast of the Immaculate Conception is celebrated on Monday 9th December 2024 and is not a Holy Day of Obligation.’

Therefore, there will be a Mass for the Solemnity in St Joseph’s Church, Kinvara on Monday 9th December 2024 at 10am, but it will not be a holy day of obligation.

Parish Christmas cards available

Parish Christmas cards are now available in the porches of Ballinderreen Church and St Joseph’s Church, Kinvara. Cards €3 each. Nine Masses will be offered for those to whom they are sent, during the Christmas season. An honesty system is in place, so please put the money in the brown envelopes provided (Don’t use the white envelopes belonging to the cards!) and put them in the door of the Parish Office in Ballinderreen or the Parochial House in Kinvara.

As you can see, a new variation on the design is available in Kinvara, while, for Ballinderreen we have a design that was particularly well-liked some years ago.

The proceeds go to the upkeep of the Churches and the mission of the parishes.
