We will begin the forty day penitential season of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving in preparation for Easter. (Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are the two days of fast and abstinence for Catholics in the year.)

 

It would be good to make Lent real and meaningful in our lives. Here are just some ideas: How about: Weekday Mass? Make a good Confession? Give up some treat, as a sacrifice to God and to build up self-control? Do something to benefit a charitable cause and help people in need? Become more active in the corporal works of mercy? Visit the Church for some quiet prayer? Reach out in reconciliation? Read some of the Bible and the Catechism of the Catholic Church? Avail of Eucharistic Adoration? Visit the Church to do the Stations of the Cross? Tackle a bad habit?
